1944 – 1952

The new one has a yellow rectangle in the vertical position, a black line in the horizontal position, and “Cummins” in small white letters along the black line. The font is now sans-serif, making it easier to read, and longer. This logo doesn’t look like it has anything to do with the company, so it’s hard to figure out what the designers were going for. 1965 – 1976
At this point, the logo went through yet another big change. There has been a change to the typeface of the logo to make it easier to read. There was nothing in the background. Where the yellow stripe was, a big “1” is drawn.
1976 – present
The design of this logo is simple, but has a modern style. The main part of the logo is the capital letter C, which has the company’s name cut diagonally into it. In 1919, Clessie Cummins and William G. Irwin, a businessman, started what is now called Cummins, Inc. The success of an engine Cummins made with a license from R.M. Cummins had to rent a space across the street from the Auto Show to promote their “$1.39 for fuel, Indy to NYC” car.
In the 1920s, many of the company’s engines were used on boats, but this market dried up when the Great Depression hurt the yachting industry. At the time, his backer and boss, Will Irwin, owned most of the grocery store chain Purity Stores in California. Cummins convinced Irwin to switch all of his food and office supply delivery trucks to diesel engines. In the California mountains at the time, diesel engines were much more reliable and cost-effective than gasoline engines.
The success of Purity Stores got a lot of attention, and this helped the over-the-road diesel truck sector grow. Cummins Engine grew because it was able to meet the demand for its high-speed, high-torque engines. Almost all of the top manufacturers in the industry needed Cummins Engine to put these engines in their semi-trailer tractors.
Even after all this, Cummins’ time at the engine company wasn’t easy, but it was profitable. The Model F, made in 1924, was the first engine that Cummins made that was a commercial success. Its first market was the marine industry, but it soon found other uses. In 1931, Cummins raced in the Indianapolis 500 using a Model A Duesenberg with a Model U marine diesel engine that he built himself.
The four-cylinder, the three-valve engine produced 85 horsepower (63 kW) and weighed 3,389 pounds. The Cummins Duesy finished the race on its first tank of gas, driving an average of 86 miles per hour (138 km/h) over the whole race. During World War II, the US military bought every diesel engine that was available in preparation for an invasion of mainland Europe by the Allies. This ensured the success of the company. But it was the demand for truck engines after the war that led to the company’s growth.
Cummins gave up his position as Chairman of the Board and left the company he started in 1955. Later that year, he started Cummins Enterprises Company after keeping important patents. After that, he started working for a California company called Allison Engine.
Before he died, Clessie Cummins never stopped thinking outside the box. He knew that brakes could overheat and stop working on long, steep downhills. Because of this, he invented and patented the first compression-release engine brake. He first told Cummins about the design, but he ended up working with Jacobs. Since its founding in 1954, Jacobs Vehicle Systems, Inc. has been marketing and selling the item under the brand name Jake Brake. As he got closer to 80, he made a new concept engine in his basement workshop and tested it.
