What is Scribie?

Scribie is an independent, profitable organization that creates an easy-to-use platform for customers and transcribers, giving you a fantastic chance to increase your income by transcribing audio files. They started the company in 2008 and have more than 70,000 customers and 50,000 certified transcribers who have used our service to transcribe more than 8 million minutes.

The task entails listening to the audio files and accurately typing them. You have a complete file selection and a completely remote job. Their rates range from $5 per audio hour to $20 per audio hour, and they pay according to the length of the audio file. Additionally, to help you out, they also offer a free automated transcript. To become certified as a transcriber, you simply need to take a test.

How to Join Scribie

Step 1: Register as a Transcriber: The first action is to register as a transcriber on the Register page at scribie.com.

Step 2: Email Confirmation: We will send an email containing a link to the signup email to verify your email address. To finish the account creation process, please click the link in your browser. You can cancel your account and register using a different email address.

Step 3: The next step is to set up your PayPal account, which is a requirement before you can take the test.

Step 4: Test File Submission: To take the test, select a file from the list, translate it into English, and then submit the translation. Please be aware that if any guidelines are broken, your submission will be rejected.

Step 5: Get Certified: Your submission will receive a grade when the customer receives the file. You will either be accepted as a transcriber (and paid for the test file, depending on your grade) or rejected. Note that if your submission is turned down, you can examine the differences between it and the reviewed file, enable re-testing, and send another test file. There can be a maximum of 10 attempts.

How Does Scribie Work?

#1. Certification:

Freelancers go through a test process to become certified transcribers on Scribie.com. Once certified, you can select files available for transcription and work on them. They are paid on an hourly basis and are monitored closely, and good performance is rewarded by being promoted to reviewer. After certification, you can log in to your Scribie account with your email address and password and select any available file. Assignments have to be submitted within 2 hours, with one allowed extension of an hour.

Additionally, your earnings will keep accumulating on your account until you submit a withdrawal request to transfer the earnings to your PayPal account. Furthermore, you also receive an accredited profile page and an embeddable widget that can be displayed on the blog or website. Note that this certificate accredits you as an audio transcriber on Scribie and lists your work experience and performance history.

#2. Transcription:

They divide the file into smaller portions and make them available for transcription when a transcript order is received. A transcriber works on each part file separately. At this point, most of the typing has been completed. Multiple transcribers can work on a file at once because the files are divided into smaller chunks, which cuts down on transcription time and evenly distributes the required work. There are four steps in the transcription process. Below is a description of each step.

Step 1: The files are divided into smaller pieces. These files are listened to by our trained transcribers, who then type them out. Files typically last 6 to 10 minutes.

Step 2: Reviewers validate the accuracy of the raw transcript and make necessary corrections. At this stage, speaker tracking and time codes are used. Note that each component is examined independently.

Step 3: Proofreading: After parts have been combined into larger parts, they are checked for accuracy and consistency. These days, the files are longer.

Step 4: Check for quality: Until accuracy is 100%, the combined file’s accuracy is evaluated, and the file alternates between proofreading and QC.

Finally, as a certified transcriber, you can log in at any time and submit a file. When the customer receives your file, the earnings will be credited to your account. You can preview the file to examine the quality and accents before choosing.

#3. Review:

Reviewers then go through each part of the filed transcript. Errors in the transcript are corrected after it is compared to the audio file. A blank and a time stamp are used to indicate inaudible passages. At this point, speaker tracking and timestamps are also included. The review procedure significantly increases the accuracy of the transcript. To learn more, kindly read the blog post about the review process.

#4. Proofreading:

At this point, the final transcript is created after all components have been reviewed. Following the second proofreading, any discrepancies between the part files in the final transcript are fixed. One Scribie.com employee who is a proofreader completes the work. At this point, the quality goes up a notch.

#5. QC and Delivery:

To find any out-of-context terms, the final transcript is quality-checked and data-mined for terms and phrases. After that, the transcript is delivered in MS Word, Adobe PDF, OpenOffice.org Text, and plain text file formats.
