Lower Middle Class

People in the lower middle class have comfortable salaries and some education, but their socioeconomic positions are lower than those of the upper middle class. This is a subset of the middle class in industrialized countries throughout the world and refers to households and people who have some education and are typically in stable employment but who do not have the education, occupational prestige, or wealth of the upper class.

In addition, people often divide this class in the United States into the lower and upper middle classes. People from the lower middle classes frequently have some college experience or a bachelor’s degree and make a good living. The only social sector that is bigger than the lower middle class is the working class, and it is thought to be growing.

Furthermore, people in the lower middle classes typically work in low rank professional or white collar positions like paralegal, teacher, or nurse. These professions typically call for some schooling but not a graduate degree. Although people in lower middle classes typically earn comfortable earnings, they also fall outside the top third of earners.

Some models place the lower sector between the 52nd and 84th percentiles. In 2005, personal income distribution was $32,500 to $60,000. Since 42% of families had two income earners, most of whom were in the top 40% of gross income, household income would be $50,000 to $100,000 per year. 27% of educated people had a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Upper Middle Class

People who fall within the middle class but have high levels of education, high incomes, and high profile occupations are referred to as upper-middle class. However, the social class made up of more affluent members of the middle class is referred to by sociologists as the “upper-middle class.” This is in contrast to the word “middle class,” which refers to a wider range of people, and the term “lower-middle class,” which is used to describe the group at the other end of the middle class stratum. How to define the upper middle class is a topic of much discussion. The upper middle class, as defined by Max Weber, is made up of educated professionals with doctorate degrees who earn comfortable wages.

Furthermore, modern sociologists use wealth, education, and occupation as the three main characteristics for defining the American upper sector. In academic models, the phrase “upper-middle class” often refers to highly educated, compensated professionals whose work is primarily self-directed. However, there is significant controversy over what exactly the term signifies. The majority of the upper middle class in the United States are white-collar workers who enjoy a high level of job autonomy. The conceptualization, consulting, and teaching industries seem to be the most prevalent in the upper middle class. They include professionals in the legal, medical, dental, engineering, academic, and architectural fields as well as civil service executives and independent contractors. Graduate degrees, such as those in law, business, or medicine, which are frequently necessary for professional professions, are held by many members of the upper sector.
