  • A customizable dashboard displays a graphical representation of an organization’s key performance indicators (KPIs), such as monthly cloud spend and estimates.
  • Alerts let users know when they are almost out of money for a certain cloud service account.

  • Allocation and refunds allow users to keep track of how the cloud service is used and how much it costs for each business user, department, or team.

The Cloudability platform is made to work with public clouds like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cost Analytics and Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Usage Analytics are tools that are unique to AWS. They help users find EC2 cloud services that can be downsized or turned off. Cloudability also has a tool called the AWS Reserved Instance Planner that helps people buy Reserved Instances.

How much does it cost to use Apptio Cloudability? Cloudability prices its services based on each customer’s needs. Website users must request a custom quote to use the tool.

Capterra says pricing is by feature per month, with prices beginning at $499 per feature per month. As of June 2022, the AWS Marketplace says that Apptio Cloudability has tiered prices, starting at $54,000 for managing $150,000 per month in AWS cloud spend, $97,200 for managing $300,000 in AWS cloud spend, and $162,000 for managing $600,000 in AWS cloud spend each month.

For larger companies, Cloudability can cost up to $5.4 million to handle $15 million in cloud spending. The platform offers a 14-day free trial, however, there is no free plan.

Is Cloudability’s Pricing Worth It?

Cloudability works like other standard cloud cost management tools when it comes to measuring high-level metrics like cost center costs.

Cloudability is also good for huge businesses with big cloud budgets, processes in more than one cloud, and dedicated cloud management staff. It also uses tags to divide up cloud costs, which can be hard for many businesses to set up and keep up to date.

But it doesn’t give enough information, like how much it costs per customer, per feature, or per deployment. Yet, these are the specific, actionable pieces of information you need to make choices about cloud investments, like:

  • Using data to figure out how much to charge for your SaaS goods will help you make more money.
  • To protect your margins, you should look at how much it costs to serve each customer, product, team, project, and setting.
  • Viewing your cloud bill at several granular levels to compare expenses, such as average cost per customer vs. cost per customer or tenant, as well as how prices have evolved over time.
  • Accurately connecting cost data to the people, processes, and goods that are in charge of finding ways to improve.

Cloudability has an undocumented “v2” API that the web application uses to do most things. Luckily, your v1 cloudability API key should work fine with it and permit you to do anything (if you pay close enough attention to the network pane in your browser’s dev tool).

Note: This works perfectly within a single Cloudability company, but I haven’t yet tried it across two distinct organizations, so I’m not sure what would happen.

On the other hand, Cloudability is primarily concerned with the control of cloud costs as well as the optimization of cloud spending.

CloudHealth provides a broad variety of functions, some of which include cost management, resource optimization, governance and compliance, security management, and performance monitoring. Among its other capabilities, CloudHealth also manages security. It offers in-depth information as well as tips to help improve cloud expenses and resource use. Cloudability is a company that specializes in cloud cost management. The company offers features such as full cost visibility, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation to assist organizations in controlling and optimizing their cloud expenditure.
