How To Make A Playlist On TikTok: 2023 Guide

What are TikTok playlists?

As more creators have started using TikTok as their primary content hub, the company has been hard at work introducing new features that allow TikTokers to streamline their content for their audience. With features like the Pro Account that helps creators track their analytics, it is clear that content creators are a big focus for the platform.

Some creators are even able to curate playlists on their profiles. This makes it easier for audiences to consume their content.

As the name suggests, the Creator Playlist feature allows TikTokers to be able to categorize their content. This has proven to be hugely beneficial for users who post series that consist of multiple videos, as it will help viewers track down other parts of a wider project if they stumble across it on their FYP.

TikTok playlists make it super easy for followers to easily view multi-part TikTok clips. TikTok released the feature in 2021 — and it’s turned out to be an incredible way to categorize and show off your best videos.

Playlists also allow users to watch curated selections of the best content. It sits on your profile, above your regularly published or pinned videos.

TikTok playlists are fairly similar to Instagram’s IGTV series. If you have experience using the IGTV series, then TikTok playlists will be a no-brainer.

But, like all great things, it comes with a catch.

TikTok playlists are only available to certain creators, which means not all TikTok creators have the ability to create playlists. Playlists are only available to a limited number of creator accounts and businesses. And while TikTok does plan to make the feature available to more users in the future, lots of users with thousands of followers still don’t have the feature.

Some users have reported getting the playlist feature after reaching a certain follower milestone, such as 5,000 or 100,000 followers. However, there are still certain TikTokers with nearly a million followers who still cannot create playlists!

So, if you are one of those users who cannot yet create a playlist on TikTok, fret not. Just be patient — the feature will continue to roll out to more users over time.

If the feature has been granted to your TikTok account, you can easily group your own videos into playlists. You can create and manage playlists on the Videos tab of your profile. And while you can add any of your public TikTok videos to a playlist, a video can only be on one playlist at a time.

How many TikTok followers do you need to make playlists?

Normally, the benchmark for eligibility for TikTok playlists is hitting 10,000 followers. This means that any less than that, and you have no hope of unlocking the feature.

However, as mentioned, some users have passed this milestone without unlocking TikTok playlists on their accounts. If your account already has 10,000 followers or more, check if your app is updated and get assistance from the TikTok support team.

How to know if you have access to the TikTok playlist feature

You will know if you are eligible for TikTok playlists if you have the option to create playlists in the Video tab on your profile. If this option is not available in the video tab on your profile, then unfortunately, that means creator playlists aren’t available to you yet and you cannot create TikTok playlists.

But, as we said, don’t despair. Knowing TikTok, if this feature is a win, then it will soon be available to more creators.

Why make a playlist on TikTok?

One of the ways to grow on TikTok is to always create content that users can consume as easily and enjoyable as possible. Ease of consumption along with an interesting, relatable, or funny video is the recipe for going viral, after all.

TikTok playlists make it that much easier for users to view your videos. Also, it makes people reflexively ‘binge’ your feed, so to speak. If you liked a video in a playlist, one just like it is next on the list.

One of the biggest benefits of the TikTok playlist feature is for series or episodic content creators. A TikTok series is just like it sounds — a string of videos for you to watch one after another. They can end up like a mini-television show, often having a guiding narrative throughout with episodes trickling out, so people are left hungry for the next one. Using a cliffhanger-style approach for your series can keep your audience coming back for more.

TikTok playlists make it easy for viewers to track down the next episode in a series. This is especially helpful if they found it on their For You page. If someone watches a video on their For You Page and then heads to your page to see the next episode, it could be buried under other content.

How to create a TikTok playlist of your videos

If you have access to Creator Playlists, you will be able to go through your public videos and make a series of videos that will appear on your profile.

Make a playlist from a video

1. In your TikTok app, go to the video that you want to use to create a playlist. Keep in mind, you can only create a playlist with your public videos.
2. Tap the three-dot icon on the right of the video or press and hold on the selected video.
3. Tap Add to Playlist, then tap Create a Playlist.
4. Follow the steps in the app to name your playlist and add videos.

Make a playlist from your profile

1. In your TikTok app, tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. In the Videos tab on your profile, tap Sort videos into playlists (if you haven’t created a playlist yet) or tap the plus icon next to your existing playlists.
3. Follow the steps in the app to name your playlist and add videos. Keep in mind, you can only create a playlist with your public videos.

You can also create a playlist directly from a video.

How to add a video to a TikTok playlist

Once you have created your playlist, you can add more videos that you have already created. You can also add new videos to a playlist.

Add a video to a playlist from a video

Here is how to add a video to a TikTok playlist from your video library:

1. In your TikTok app, go to the video that you want to add to a playlist. Keep in mind, you can only add public videos to a playlist.
2. Tap the three-dot icon on the right of the video or press and hold on the video.
3. Tap Add to playlist.
4. Choose the playlist you’d like to add the video to.

Note: A video can only appear in one playlist at a time. If you want to add a video to a different playlist, you will have to remove it from the playlist it is already in.

Add a video to a playlist when you post the video

In case you want to create a video from scratch to add to a TikTok playlist, here is how to go about it:

1. In your TikTok app, create your video.
2. On the Post screen, tap Add to Playlist.
3. Choose the playlist you’d like to add the video to. Keep in mind, you can only add public videos to a playlist.
4. Tap Post to post your video.

Note: Before you can add a video to a playlist from your Post screen, you’ll need to create a playlist first. If you haven’t created a playlist, you won’t see the Add to Playlist option.

How to remove a video from a playlist

You can also remove a video after adding it to a playlist. If you remove a video from a playlist, it doesn’t delete the video; it just will not be available in the playlist anymore.

1. In your TikTok app, go to the video that you want to remove from the playlist.
2. Tap the three-dot icon on the right of the video or press and hold on the video.
3. Tap Remove from the playlist.

How to manage your TikTok video playlists

After you have created your TikTok playlists, you can go back and do things like change the playlist name or edit the contents of your playlist. You can even delete the playlist.

Change your playlist’s name

1. In your TikTok app, tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. In the Videos tab on your profile, tap the playlist you’d like to update.
3. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right of your playlist screen.
4. Tap Change playlist name and add your new name.

Edit your playlist

1. In your TikTok app, tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. In the Videos tab on your profile, tap the playlist you’d like to update.
3. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right of your playlist screen.
4. Tap Edit playlist. From here, you can:
       • Tap Remove Videos or Add Videos at the bottom to remove or add videos more than one video at the same time.
       • Tap the 3-line icon on the right of the video and drag it to reorder videos.

After you finish editing, tap Done to save your changes.

Delete a playlist

1. In your TikTok app, tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. In the Videos tab on your profile, tap the playlist you’d like to update.
3. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right of your playlist screen.
4. Tap Delete playlist, then tap Delete to confirm.

If you delete a playlist, you won’t delete the videos in the playlist.

Note: The most recent video you add to a playlist will be the first video that plays in your playlist. You can manually reorder the videos if you’d like your oldest added videos to play first.

How many playlists can you create on TikTok?

You can create an unlimited number of YouTube playlists. You are also allowed up to 5,000 videos per playlist.
