The PlayStation 5 has been available for a while, and critics have generally praised it. Better load speeds, a solid-state drive (SSD) in place of a traditional hard disk drive (HDD), and a more responsive controller in the form of the new DualSense are just a few of the many quality-of-life upgrades over its predecessor, the PlayStation 4. But games are what really make or break a console, and the PS5 has you covered there as well. Even though the PS5 already has a solid library of excellent games, there are even more to look forward to, some of which are coming out as soon as this month and others that are still years away. Here, we’ll go over all the upcoming PS5 exclusive games, and some features that are not in the PS4 are also well covered. Just read on!

Upcoming PS5 Exclusive Games

Here are the finest upcoming PS5 exclusive games coming in 2023, ranging from sequels to new IPs and even some heavy VR titles.

#1. Season: A Letter To The Future (Console Exclusive)

Season: A Letter to the Future, developed by Scavengers Studio, casts players in the role of a young woman riding her bike throughout the globe in an effort to gather and preserve memories of the planet before a catastrophic event wipes it clean. Players must explore the environment, engage with its people, and record as much as possible before time runs out.

The PlayStation 5 version will use 3D audio and Dual Sense haptic feedback to enhance the game’s immersion. On January 31, 2023, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners will be able to get their hands on Season: A Letter to the Future, an independent game developed only for PlayStation consoles.

#2. Forspoken (Timed Console Exclusive)

Guerrilla Games’ Horizon is a perfect fit to demonstrate the capabilities of Sony’s upcoming PSVR 2 headset, which is scheduled for release in February 2023. In Horizon: Call of the Mountain, players assume the role of Ryas, a former fighter for the Black Carja clan. Ryas wants to earn back the Sundom’s trust, so he goes out on an investigative solo mission.

The player will have to use a bow and arrow to defend themselves from dangerous animals and scale perilous peaks. Launching on February 22, 2023, accompanied by the PSVR2, the virtual reality game Horizon: Call of the Mountain will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

#3. The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, Big Fish Games’ latest VR spin-off of their Dark Pictures Anthology series, is unique. Players will have to fire their way out of a dangerous roller coaster while facing off against fearsome enemies from the first episode of the collection series.

The trip is so intense that blinking may spell the difference between life and death for the players. On February 22, 2023, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR will be issued exclusively for the PlayStation VR 2.

#4. Stellar Blade

Developed by Shift Up, a studio based in South Korea, and released by Sony Interactive Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 5, Stellar Blade is an upcoming story-driven action game. Players control Eve, a rebel fighting parasites called the natives to defend Earth’s lone human-inhabited metropolis. In what is sure to be an exciting journey, players will discover the secrets behind Earth’s destruction. Stellar Blade will be out in 2023, however, no specific date has been set.

#5. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In 2020, Square Enix blew away the expectations of everyone with a stunning remake of Final Fantasy 7, one of the all-time greatest role-playing games. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has many new and exciting surprises and follows up the original RPG’s first several hours.

Part two of the remake, named Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, will see the departure of Cloud and the gang from Midgar and the reappearance of other original RPG characters. Also, the convoluted history of Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth will be revealed to gamers in Rebirth. The anticipated release date for the game is the chilly months of 2023.

#6. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

With the release of their first Spider-Man game in 2018, Insomniac Games raised the bar for Superhero video games. The long-awaited sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man has finally arrived on PlayStation 5 after nearly 5 years. Like the first game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be an open-world action game with new and returning Spider-Men talents.

In this exciting adventure, players will join Peter and Miles as they team up to take on their greatest enemy, the diabolical Venom. The new gameplay is being kept under wraps, but the game is expected to launch in the fall of 2023.

#7. Final Fantasy 16

Fans of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series will be overjoyed to hear that the game will be released this year on the PlayStation 5. The universe of Final Fantasy 16, Valisthea, is divided into six different nations. This is the sixteenth mainstream installment in the long-running franchise. The game follows Clive Rosefield, the First Shield of Rosaria, who must protect his younger brother, the Phoenix Eikon Dominant.

The real-time, fast-paced fighting in Final Fantasy 16 will be joined by a rich story and a cast of memorable characters. On June 22nd, 2023, the game will be released for the PlayStation 5.

PS5 Exclusives Not on PS4

Here you may find a list of the best confirmed upcoming PS5 exclusive games for 2023 that are not coming to PS4. But I’ve also found games that are upcoming exclusives to the PS5 games or PS5 and PC (and hence, neither the Xbox One S nor the Nintendo Switch will be able to play them).

Here’s the current list of PS5 exclusives that are not on PS4:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Atlas Fallen
  • Between Horizons
  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
  • Company of Heroes 3
  • Crown Wars: The Black Prince
  • Final Fantasy 16 (PS5 Exclusive)
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
  • The Gap
  • Deceive Inc.
  • Forspoken (PS5, PC Exclusive)
  • Dead Space

From the above list, it should be clear that if you want to play some of the most anticipated games of 2023, you should seriously consider purchasing a PlayStation 5. Still, Sony is pushing PS5 more than ever, even while we wait for game release dates. The PS5 exclusives will be essential for a number of upcoming games, including Final Fantasy 16, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and the Silent Hill 2 Remake. The PlayStation team and some of their publishing partners have been mum on whether or not certain PS4 games will be ported to PC in addition to PS5 exclusives, but the message is still obvious. Major new releases will no longer necessarily be released simultaneously on PS4 and PS5.

Another interesting development is the increasing number of independent developers releasing PS5 games. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Space, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League require a next-gen console or PC. In 2023, the PlayStation 4 is still getting some attention (more on that later), but last-gen support is clearly diminishing elsewhere.

Generic information on PS4 and PS5

In other words, PS4 owners won’t be completely abandoned in 2023. Many third-party developers have stated that they will continue to support PS4 throughout the year, despite PlayStation’s partners shifting more of their exclusive titles to PS5.

There are, however, a few things that PS4 owners should remember. For instance, the PlayStation 4 version of Hogwarts Legacy won’t be available until April 4, 2016, two months after the PlayStation 5 version’s launch. Delays in this area are cause for concern, although it does not appear that there are many other similarly scattered releases planned (yet). If development is stopped, 2023 games may become next-gen exclusives. Any games that don’t have a firm (and somewhat close) release date should be on your radar.

More so,, you’ll want to exercise caution in the future with regard to PS4 performance. It’s possible that more PS4 games will lag behind as the generation gap widens in favor of PS5 games. I don’t think the breakup will be that bad in most cases, but we’ve seen this movie before. Hold wait on pre-ordering your favorite future game for PS4 to ensure it runs well.

What Games Are Announced for 2024?

Even though it is still 2023, gamers have a lot of 2024-scheduled video games to look forward to.

  •  Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
  • Homeworld
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
  • Life by You

Is PS5 Worth Buying In 2023?

The PS5 is a good purchase, yes. There has never been a better moment to upgrade to Sony’s newest system than right now. The PS5 is a true next-generation console in every way.

How Many PS5 Exclusives Are There Now?

According to our criteria, the PS5 contains 12 big exclusive games.

Ten of these games have been evaluated by us using various metrics. On average, they received a 4 out of 5 stars from us, which is excellent. Overall, critics gave it an 80 out of 100 on Metacritic, which indicates “generally favorable reviews.”

Of course, you shouldn’t put too much stock on review scores, so please use your best judgment. However, a numerical metric serves as a useful starting point.

The excellence of the PS5’s releases thus far is undeniable. For kids, I wouldn’t recommend Destruction AllStars or Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Additionally, our best-in-class experiences include Deathloop’s fascinating clockwork environment and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s immediate dimension-hopping, among others.

Games ranging from first-person shooters to vehicular warfare simulators may be found here, so diversity is not an issue. Five of the titles are third-person action/adventure games, and they all follow very standard patterns. That’s not even close to a decisive majority.

Will There Be a PS5 Slim?

Several rumors indicate the PS5 Slim will come in September 2023, but that’s only around the corner and Sony has said little officially.

However, given it’s not a substantial power and capability upgrade like the PS5 Pro, the PS5 Slim may be announced and released in 2023.

Is There a Ghost of Tsushima 2?

Since Sucker Punch hasn’t even confirmed that a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is in development, it’s unlikely that a release window will be announced anytime soon. Speculatively, if the game is under production, it would likely be released sometime in 2023 or 2024.

Will PS5 Be the Last Physical Console?

I think so. Google’s dislike of Stadia (a cloud-based streaming service) has sparked rumors that the company plans to enter the game services market and compete with Microsoft and Sony. The good news is that you may play the game from any location, on any device, so long as you have access to the internet. Microsoft’s Azure (cloud-based platform) and Sony’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be used to create a superior game streaming service, as was recently announced.

If the 5G network were to completely replace traditional networks in the next years, Sony’s PS5 would be the last console. And the gaming industry is seeing a revolution thanks to multiplayer titles like PubG, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Destiny.

Assuming demand for AAA single-player games continues indefinitely, more consoles may be needed in the future. The only thing we can do is wait and see what happens.
