When a coveted promotion becomes available, the once-supportive couple’s power dynamic shifts, severing their relationship as they struggle to balance ambition and love for one another.
#2. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (2023)
Wes Anderson’s short film adaptation of one of Roald Dahl’s lesser-known works does not fit the traditional mold of this roundup, but it is a Wes Anderson piece, so it is included. Henry Sugar (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a wealthy businessman who discovers a guru who can see without using his eyes. Sugar, greedy and narcissistic, steals the guru’s magical book, allowing him to steal the skill and see the future, which he immediately uses to cheat at gambling.
#3. Reptile (2023)
This hard-boiled Netflix original thriller stars Benicio del Toro, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Silverstone. Tom Nichols (del Toro) is a tough cop tasked with investigating the brutal murder of a young real estate agent. However, as he investigates the case, he uncovers a larger conspiracy that shatters illusions in his own life as everyone becomes a suspect.

Pablo Larran’s bizarre satirical revisionist history depicts a world in which Augusto Pinochet (Jaime Vadell) is a 250-year-old vampire living in obscurity. Pinochet, in his ripe old age, decides he’s had enough of being remembered as a thief and sets out on his next great adventure: figuring out how to die.
#5. Love at First Sight (2023)
Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy star as star-crossed lovers in this popular Netflix original romance. Hadley (Richardson) meets Oliver (Hardy) in the airport after missing her flight from New York to London. Sparks fly instantly. After a long plane ride getting to know one another, they are separated at Heathrow customs and appear cursed when meeting up again. If you’ve ever had one of those airplane seat love stories, this one is for you.

#6. The Boogeyman (2023)
The classic monster is given a horrifying makeover in The Boogeyman. Sadie and Sawyer Harper (Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair) are grieving the recent death of their mother, and their therapist father, Will (Chris Messina), isn’t offering much support. When one of Will’s patients desperately arrives, he leaves behind a supernatural entity that preys on family suffering and is out to destroy the Harpers.
#7. No One Will Save You (2023)
No One Will Save You, written and directed by Brian Duffield (The Babysitter), takes place in a remote community where young Brynn Adams (Kaitlyn Dever) has been isolated from her people for being a little too creative and talented. Brynn remains hopeful that things will improve, finding joy in her childhood home… until one day she is awoken by non-human intruders.
#8. Sanctuary (2023)
Hal (Christopher Abbot) is about to inherit his father’s hotel chain, which causes him to rethink a few things in his life, especially his covert relationship with Rebecca (Margaret Qualley), his dominatrix. But Rebecca isn’t so easily convinced, resulting in a long, tense night in which each tries to assert dominance outside of the bedroom and in the dynamics of their lives.
#9. What’s Love Got to Do with It? (2023)
What’s Love Got to Do With It is not to be confused with the hit 1993 drama starring Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress Angela Bassett. Zoe (Lily James) is a dating app addict who has so many bad dates that it’s become normal for her, much to the chagrin of her eccentric mother, Cath (Emma Thompson).
On the other end of the spectrum, Zoe’s childhood friend Kaz (Shazad Latif) has been planning an arranged marriage with a Pakistani bride since he was born. As Zoe documents his hopefully romantic journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger chosen by his parents, she begins to doubt everything she thought she knew about love.
#10. Slotherhouse (2023)
Slotherhouse is a new college scream queen parody starring Lisa Ambalavanar as sorority sister Emily Young, who takes on the role of president of her sorority to ensure everyone has a good year. At the start of her campaign, she comes across an adorable sloth who becomes her campaign’s mascot. When sisters start dying in Sigma Lambda Theta house, Emily and her sisters quickly realize the culprit is Alpha, the cuddly but vicious sloth house mascot.

#11. Totally Killer (2023)
Totally Killer, a scream queen homage, picks up 35 years after the shocking murder of three teenagers when the “Sweet Sixteen Killer” returns to claim a fourth victim. Ignoring her overprotective mother’s warnings, 17-year-old Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) ventures into town, only to come face to face with the killer and accidentally enter a time warp, transporting her back to 1987—the year of the original murders. Faced with a new opportunity, Jamie joins forces with her teenage mother (Olivia Holt) to stop the killer before he strikes.
#12. Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant (2023)
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant would be better if it were based on true events, but it’s still entertaining as is. Following his capture in an ambush, Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim) goes to great lengths to save the life of US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal). Ahmed and his family were promised safe passage to the United States in recognition of their extraordinary bravery. When America fails to keep its promise, Kinley vows to make amends by returning to Afghanistan and evacuating Ahmed and his family himself before the Taliban hunts them down.
#13. Sitting in Bars with Cake (2023)
Sitting in Bars with Cake, based on Audrey Shulman’s book of the same name, stars Yara Shahidi and Odessa A’zion as best friends, Jane and Corrine, who live in Los Angeles. Corrine is the ultimate extrovert, and she convinces Jane, a talented home baker, to start bringing cakes to bars to meet people and gain confidence. During this time, however, Corinne receives a life-changing diagnosis.
#12. Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
This one of the year’s best political rom-coms begins with an altercation between Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the president’s son, and Britain’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine). The incident becomes tabloid fodder, and their well-known, long-running feud is now beginning to sever ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. When they are forced to stage a truce, their icy relationship begins to thaw into something neither of them expected.

#13. Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
In Meg 2: The Trench, the colossal prehistoric shark returns, but so do Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) and Jiuming Zhang (Wu Jing). Except that this time, when Taylor and Zhang lead an exploratory dive into the ocean’s deepest depths, they are interrupted by a mining operation that releases multiple Megs from the depths. They will now have to navigate massive marine predators as well as environmental plunderers in a race against time.
#14. The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart (2023)
The Adult Swim classic returns in this original film, which picks up immediately after the events of Season 7’s finale. While Hank Venture is being hunted across the country, an imposing evil from the past resurfaces to torment the Ventures, The Guild, and the Monarch marriage. It will take the cooperation of friends and foes alike to restore order to the Ventures’ world.
#15. BS High (2023)
BS High is a strange look into the world of commercialized high school football, covering the aftermath of a nationally televised 2021 high school football game between top-ranked IMG Academy and unknown Bishop Sycamore High School. IMG won the game 58-0, and a slew of players were injured, sparking a media frenzy about how such a lopsided game could have reached the national stage. Finally, questions were directed at BS head coach Roy Johnson, which is where the rabbit hole begins.

#16. Strays (2023)
In the ridiculous comedy Strays, the stars go to the dogs. Reggie (Will Ferrell), a naive, optimistic Border Terrier, is abandoned on the streets by his owner Doug (Will Forte), but Reggie believes it was not done on purpose. Now he meets a stray Boston Terrier named Bug (Jamie Foxx), who is overjoyed with the freedom of being a stray. Bug shows Reggie that he is trapped in a toxic relationship, and they plot revenge on Doug with the help of friends Australian Shepherd Maggie (Isla Fisher) and Great Dane Hunter (Randall Park).
#17. Fast X (2023)
Fast X is the latest installment in the ultimate franchise of big, dumb fun, and it only gets bigger with each subsequent film. Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his carjacking clan have outwitted and outdriven everyone they’ve encountered. But now they’re up against their most dangerous foe yet: another Toretto. John’s brother Jakob (John Cena) has emerged from Dom’s past with a vengeance and a determination to destroy everything Dom cherishes.
#16. Hypnotic (2023)
This sci-fi thriller stars Ben Affleck and Robert Rodriguez as detective Danny Rourke (Affleck), who is on a mission to find his missing daughter. His real job, on the other hand, requires him to investigate a series of reality-bending bank robberies, which quickly leads him down a rabbit hole of conspiracy and psychosis that holds the key to discovering what happened to his daughter. Rourke plays a game of cat and mouse with a lethal specter, Dellrayne (William Fichtner), with the help of gifted psychic Diana Cruz (Alice Braga).

#17. Haunted Mansion (2023)
The famous Disneyland ride is brought to life when single mother Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help her exorcise her newly purchased mansion after discovering it is completely inhabited by ghosts. LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Jared Leto, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tiffany Haddish are among the cast members.
#18. Elemental (2023)
Pixar’s latest film has been exclusively released on Disney+. Fire, water, land, and air coexist in Element City, but they don’t always hang out together. However, the fiery Ember (Leah Lewis) and the laid-back Wade (Mamoudou Athie) are out to discover if the elements have more in common than meets the eye.
#19. The Little Mermaid (2023)
The Little Mermaid, another Disney live-action remake, stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, the youngest and most defiant of King Triton’s (Javier Bardem) daughters. Ariel visits the surface, longing to explore the world beyond the sea, and falls in love from afar with the dashing Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King). Despite being forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel strikes a bargain with the evil sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to live on land for a limited time… for a price.

#20. Flora and Son (2023)
The newest modern musical from John Carney (Once, Sing Street) stars Eve Hewson as Flora, a single mother who is at a loss for how to deal with her adolescent son, Max (Orén Kinlan). Flora pushes Max into learning the guitar after a police officer encourages him to find a hobby. Flora falls in love with the instrument after taking remote lessons from a washed-up LA musician (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). And, as it turns out, Max has another musical talent, allowing mother and son to discover a hidden love of music together.
#21. Beanie Bubble (2023)
The Beanie Bubble, a semi-true story about the incredible Beanie Babies boom of the 1990s, introduces the world to Ty Warner (Zach Galifianakis), a frustrated toy salesman who struggles to get any idea off the ground. However, when he teams up with Robbie (Elizabeth Banks), Sheila (Succession’s Sarah Snook), and Maya (Geraldine Viswanathan), his one brilliant idea blossoms into the world’s wildest toy craze. This is the story of the names that didn’t make the TY list.

Growing up sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers have reached adolescence and are ready to emerge from the shadows and prove to the city that they are normal teenagers by performing heroic acts. They decide to take on a mysterious crime syndicate with the help of a new friend, April O’Neil (Ayo Edebiri). Only to discover that they may have bitten off more than they could chew.
