Can you download movies on Disney Plus? This is one of the most frequently asked questions if you just downloaded the mobile app. The answer is a simple yes. But you must first enable downloads in the Disney Plus mobile app, after which it is fairly simple to download content from the service. You can also direct where downloads go on your device and restrict them to Wi-Fi networks.
But how do you go about this? Let’s find out…
Overview
Disney Plus offers a plethora of movies and TV shows to stream on your Android or iOS device, with new shows and movies being added on a regular basis. The good news is that you don’t have to rely solely on your cellular or internet connection to access the service’s content library. If you sign up for plans that do not include ads, Disney allows you to download all of the Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and classic Disney content available on the service.
You can download as many titles as you want on up to ten mobile or tablet devices. However, you must reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days. This is a useful feature for those who have slow internet or data caps. It’s also useful for road trips or flying.
Devices and Plans That Support Downloads
Download the Disney Plus mobile apps for iOS and Android, the Amazon Fire tablet app, and the Microsoft Windows apps for Windows 10 and 11. Additionally, Chromebooks with the Android app can download Disney Plus content.
Until recently, it didn’t matter which Disney Plus plan you chose (monthly, bundle, or annual), because they all supported downloads. However, the new Disney Plus Basic plan has been available since December 2022. It is less expensive than the other plans, but it has some limitations. The most significant change is that it now includes video advertisements before and during movie and TV show streaming. It is also incompatible with Roku devices. Another significant limitation is the inability to support content downloads.
If you want this feature, you must purchase the more expensive Disney Plus Premium plan, which starts at $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year. This also applies if you bundle the service with Hulu or Hulu and ESPN Plus; you must choose a bundle that does not include Disney Plus ads.
How to Change Settings to Download Disney Plus Movies and TV Shows
Before you can download Disney Plus movies and TV shows, you must first configure the app. First, decide on the video quality you want for your downloaded content.
- Sign in to Disney Plus, then tap the account icon in the lower-right corner of the app.
- Then, in the menu, tap on the App Settings option.
- There should be a Download Quality option available. Tap on it.
- You will then be presented with three options. High provides the highest video quality for Disney Plus movies and TV shows. Medium downloads lower-quality videos, while Standard downloads the lowest-quality videos. When downloading Disney Plus movies and TV shows, select the option you want.
Keep in mind that the download speeds and storage limits differ depending on the quality setting. The slower the download, the higher the setting. Higher settings require more storage space on the device.
How to Change Download Locations
If your phone or tablet has a microSD card slot for extra storage, go to App Settings and select Download Location. Then, you can choose between your device’s internal storage and the installed microSD card. When you download Disney Plus movies and TV shows, they are saved to your specified location.
Limit Downloads to Wi-Fi Connections
If you use a cellular connection to download Disney Plus movies and TV shows, they will most likely consume a large amount of bandwidth. If your phone has a limited data plan or you want faster speeds, go to App Settings and select the Download Over Wi-Fi Only option.
How to Download, Watch and Delete Disney Plus Movies and TV Shows
The Disney Plus app makes it very simple to download movies and TV shows.
- Navigate to the film or TV episode you want to download from the service, and you’ll notice an arrow icon descending. When you click on it, the download will begin.
- To watch your downloaded movies and TV shows, go to the Disney Plus app’s bottom menu and tap the download arrow icon.
- Then, you can see which downloaded movies and TV shows are on your device. To begin watching one, tap on the small phone icon to the right of the video you’ve chosen.
- A pop-up menu will appear, with two options: Play or Remove Download. Tap Play to start watching your video, or Remove Download to delete it.
- If you want to delete multiple videos from the app, there is a faster second method. Simply tap the Edit option in the top-right corner of the screen. Checkmarks will take the place of phone icons. Tap on the videos you want to download, and then tap on the garbage can icon at the top to delete them all.
Remember that when you download Disney Plus movies and TV shows, you will only be able to watch them for as long as you subscribe to the service. A film or television show may be removed from Disney Plus at any time. If this occurs and you have downloaded it, you will not be able to play it again until it is restored to the service.

How Much Space Do I Require?
The amount of storage space each title consumes is primarily determined by video length and resolution, and with other variables influencing the equation—the most important of which is your quality setting—this number can vary greatly.
We downloaded three movies of similar length and resolution—a few Star Wars films that run just over two hours each—to see how each option affects file size. The Empire Strikes Back required 0.92GB for a 2-hour, 7-minute runtime in standard quality, while A New Hope required 1.4GB for 2 hours and 4 minutes in medium quality. That’s a small improvement over Return of the Jedi in high quality, which required 5.5GB for 2 hours and 14 minutes. A 39-minute episode of The Mandalorian takes 1.5GB in high quality but only 270MB in standard and 424MB in medium. Finally, with a runtime of 3 hours and 1 minute, The Avengers: End Game requires a whopping 7.1GB.
You can estimate how much space you’ll need to store everything you want using the data above. You can mix and match by changing the quality setting before starting the download. Now is also an excellent time to decide whether you need a Wi-Fi connection to download content, which those with limited data should strongly consider. Wi-Fi-only downloads are enabled by default on Disney+.
What Options Are There?
As previously stated, everything in the Disney+ catalog can be downloaded for offline viewing. You can download an entire season of Darkwing Duck or every single movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe if it’s available on Disney+.
Unlike some other services, Disney+ has few restrictions. To begin, you can download a single title on up to ten different devices at once, and you can download any of them as many times as you like. The only requirement is that you connect to Disney+ every 30 days.
Is Disney Plus content available for download on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and other smart TV apps?
Unfortunately, the Disney Plus smart TV apps do not support content downloads.
Is there anything you can’t download on Disney Plus?
Some shows and movies may be unavailable for download for a variety of reasons, including limited contracts, content, and region availability.
Why isn’t my download working?
Your device may be running out of storage space. If this is the case, delete the previous content and try again. You may also have subscribed to the new Disney Plus Basic plan, which does not support downloads.
Do the downloads have a time limit?
If your device is not connected to the internet for more than 30 days, the app’s downloadable content will be automatically deleted.
Can I download the same movie or TV show multiple times?
The download limit for the same Disney Plus movie or TV episode is ten supported devices at once.
Can I get Disney Plus on my Xbox?
While watching Disney Plus on Xbox is simple, you cannot download content for offline viewing.
Is it possible to download Disney Plus content to a desktop or laptop computer?
Most streaming platforms allow some form of downloading for offline playback, but these features are typically disabled on Mac and PC. The same is true here: you cannot download content if you watch Disney Plus on a desktop. Chromebooks, on the other hand, are an exception because they can use the Disney Plus Android app.
