APPLE WATCH SET UP: How Do I Set Up My New Apple Watch?

Apple Watch Set up
The sweet setup

You probably already own an Apple Watch if you own an iPhone. Despite the fact that it requires an iPhone to use and has a battery life of less than a day, Apple’s unique wearable is the best-selling smartwatch in the world. This is true for many good reasons: It works with all of your major apps and interacts easily with other Apple devices. It measures a comprehensive array of health and fitness parameters. The fact that it comes in so many stunning colors is certainly a plus. Are you a little late? No big deal. If you just bought a midrange SE or a Series 7 at a discount instead of a Series 8, you may be thinking about how to get the most out of your new wrist accessory. This guide will educate you on Apple Watch Set Up, Apple Watch Set Up Cellular, and How to Set Up an Apple New Watch.

Apple Watch Setup

You’ll need an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16 or later to set up and use a new Apple Watch. Discover how to identify your iPhone’s model and update it to the most recent version of iOS.

Before you start, make sure your iPhone is running the most recent version of iOS.

Make sure your iPhone is linked to Wi-Fi or a cellular network and that Bluetooth is turned on. If you’ve already set up your Apple Watch but wish to use it with a different iPhone, you can move your Apple Watch and its content to your new iPhone.

#1. Turn On Your Apple Watch and Put It On

Press the side button and hold it down until the Apple logo appears to switch on your Apple Watch. Once that is done, wear the watch.

#2. Hold Your Apple Watch Close to Your iPhone.

You should wait for the notice “Use your iPhone to set up this Apple Watch” to appear on your iPhone before pressing Continue. If this message isn’t displayed, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, select All Watches, and then click Add Watch.

If this is your first Apple Watch, tap Setup for Me. You may also choose to set up the watch for a member of your family by tapping Set Up for a Family Member and then going through the process. Keep your iPhone and Apple Watch close until you finish these steps.

#3. Hold Your iPhone Over the Animation

In the iPhone’s viewfinder, center the watch face. Wait for a pairing confirmation message. If the pairing animation doesn’t show, the iPhone can’t read it, or you can’t use the camera, tap Pair Manually and then follow the on-screen instructions.

#4. Set Up as New or Restore From a Backup

Tap Set Up as a New Apple Watch if this is your first Apple Watch. If asked, you should update your Apple Watch to the newest version of watchOS.

If you’ve set up a second Apple Watch with your current iPhone, a screen titled Make This Your New Apple Watch will appear. By tapping Apps & Data and Settings, you can see how Express Setup will set up your new watch. Tap Continue after that. Tap Customize Settings if you want to change how your new watch is set up. Then, to restore, select a backup from a prior Apple Watch. Or, you can tap Set Up as New Apple Watch once you wish to change all of the settings on your new device.

Your iPhone might need a program update before you can set up your Apple Watch. If your iPhone says that a software update is ready, tap Update Now and wait for the update to finish.

Then select the wrist on which you wear your Apple Watch and tap Continue. Read the rules and then tap “I agree.”

#5. Sign In With Your Apple ID

If prompted, enter the Apple ID password.  If you are not prompted to sign in, you can do it later through the Apple Watch app: Tap General, then click Apple ID and sign in. When you don’t sign in to iCloud on a cellular Apple Watch, some functions that need a cell phone number won’t work.

If Find My iPhone is not set up on your iPhone, you will be prompted to activate Activation Lock. If you see a screen that says “Activation Lock,” your Apple Watch is already connected to an Apple ID. To resume setup, you must enter the Apple ID’s email address and password. If someone else owned your Apple Watch before you, you might need to get in touch with the former owner to get rid of Activation Lock.

#6. Create a Passcode

You don’t have to create a passcode, but some functions, like Apple Pay, require one.

To enter your new code on your Apple Watch, first tap Create a Passcode or Add a Long Passcode on your iPhone. Tap Don’t Add Passcode to skip.

#7. Customize Your Settings

Choose your text size and decide if you want to use bold text. If you did not choose Express Setup, your Apple Watch displays whatever settings it shares with your iPhone. If you turned on features like Find My Location Services, Wi-Fi Calling, and Diagnostics on your iPhone, these settings are immediately turned on for your Apple Watch.

Make sure your fitness and health information is accurate by adding or updating things like your date of birth. You can also get information about Emergency SOS and Fall Detection and turn on health alerts, such as noise levels.

#8. Set up Cellular and Apple Pay

You may enable cellular on Apple Watch cellular models.

Following that, you’ll be prompted to add a card to Apple Pay. The iPhone will then guide you through features such as the Always On display and your desired app view.

#9. Keep Your Devices Close as They Sync

When the pairing procedure is completed and your watch is ready to use, your Apple Watch displays the watch’s face. Keep your iPhone and Apple Watch close to each other so they can keep sharing information in the background.

Apple Watch Setup Cellular

You can use your Apple Watch’s cellular connection to do things like make calls, reply to messages, get notifications, and more, even when you’re not near your iPhone.

#1. Before You Start:

  • Make sure that your iPhone and Apple Watch have the latest software.
  • Check to see if your service settings have been updated.
  • Ensure that you have a supported carrier and an approved cellular service plan. Your iPhone and Apple Watch must use the same carrier, and you must be on your provider’s network to set up cellular on your watch.
  • Check with your carrier or firm to see if this feature is supported on your business or corporate cell phone plan. Right now, you can’t use prepaid accounts or some older accounts. Please contact your carrier to determine if your account is eligible.

#2. How to Set Up Your Cellular Plan on Apple Watch:

When you set up your Apple Watch for the first time, you can turn on cellular. During setup, look for the choice to set up cellular, then follow the steps onscreen.

  • The Apple Watch software also allows you to set up cellular later:
  • Start up the app for Apple Watch on your iPhone.
  • Tap My Watch, then tap Cellular.
  • Tap on Set Up Cellular.
  • Follow the instructions provided by your carrier. You might need assistance from your provider.

#3. Connect to a Cellular Network

If you have cellular on your Apple Watch, it will immediately switch to the most power-efficient wireless: When your iPhone is close, it can connect to a WiFi network or a cellular network. When you connect your Apple Watch to cellular, it uses LTE networks. But if your service doesn’t support LTE, your watch will try to connect to UMTS.

  • When your watch links to a cellular network, you can use Control Center or the Explorer watch face to check the signal strength. Swipe up after touching and holding the bottom of the screen to access the Control Center.
  • When you’re connected, the cellular button goes green. The green dots indicate how strong the signal is.
  • When your cellular plan is active and your watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth or WiFi, the cellular buttons will turn white.

#4. How to Transfer Your Cellular Plan to a New Apple Watch:

You can move your cellular service from your old Apple Watch to your new one when you’re ready to start using it. The steps are as follows:

  • Remove your old Apple Watch’s cellular service. You can do this through the Apple Watch app or by wiping your previous Apple Watch.
  • Connect your Apple Watch to your iPhone. Tap Set up Cellular in your Apple Watch when setting up to add a cellular plan.
  • Some carriers permit you to transition your existing plan directly from the Apple Watch application to your new Apple Watch.
  • If you don’t see an option to transfer your cell phone plan, call your carrier for help.

How to Set Up Apple New Watch

This is the option if you’ve never had an Apple Watch or don’t want to restore from a backup. After selecting Set Up as New Apple Watch in the first section, you can proceed.

What You Should Do Next:

  • Accept Apple’s terms and conditions on the first few pages, wait for the Watch app to sign you in to your Apple ID account (if required to sign in, do so), and then select OK on the “Shared Settings” screen.
  • Set a password on your Apple Watch to keep it safe. To use a simple 4-digit code, choose Create a Passcode and enter your desired code twice on the Apple Watch. Select Add a Long Passcode and input the code on the Watch to use a more complex and secure code. Choose Don’t Add Passcode, but Apple warns against it.
  • The Watch app on your iPhone will then tell you about the Heart Health features of your Apple Watch if your model supports them. On this screen, the only thing you can do is click Continue. The Watch’s heart health features only work after setup.

Set Up Your New Apple Watch

  • Apple Pay allows safe wireless payments with the Apple Watch. Reauthorize your card if you use Apple Pay on your iPhone. If you haven’t used it yet, this step is where you can set it up. In the Apple Watch App, click Continue or Set Up Later to set up Apple Pay.
  • The following screen describes the Apple Watch’s safety features (the specific options vary depending on the model, but they all include Emergency SOS calls and fall detection). Many iPhone settings are carried over to our Watch. Your Watch automatically adds emergency contacts and health and exercise goals if you’ve already set them up. If not, you may be asked to set them up before clicking Continue.
  • If your Apple Watch can connect to a cell phone network, you will see an extra screen that allows you to set up cellular service. Click “Set Up Cellular” to set up your Watch with the phone company that gives it cellular service. Follow the instructions on the screen until you see “Cellular Is Ready.” Click Continue.
  • Apple Watch apps allow you to use iPhone apps on your wrist. On this screen, you can choose to either Install All of your iPhone’s watch apps or Choose Later.
  • After selecting all options, your iPhone and Apple Watch will sync. It depends on how much stuff you’re synchronizing, but expect at least a few minutes. Check the iPhone’s and Apple Watch’s progress wheels.
  • When the process is finished, the noise will play to let you know. While you wait, you can swipe up and look at lessons to learn more about the Watch.
  • When the sound and vibration indicate that the synchronization is complete, press the Watch’s digital crown to begin using it.
