Do you want to know how to cancel a Google Play subscription?

Perhaps you have been moved to pay for Google’s premium app services in the past, but then you want to opt-out, for whatever reason. Or maybe you are just curious about what it entails, should you be inclined to consider it in the future.

Google Play Store subscriptions have become a lot more common in recent years, with many applications offering free trials. But if you are no longer using your subscription or weren’t impressed by what it had to offer, you can cancel at any time.

Whatever your reason is, we’ve got you. But first…

What is a Google Play Subscription?

A Google Play subscription, also known as a Play Pass, is an affordable way to get a mix of games and apps on your Android phone. It offers hundreds of Android games and apps (close to 1,000 in total). The library boasts many titles that usually cost money, and there are no ads or in-app purchases in any of the included content.

Apps and games that usually contain ads or in-app purchases are ad-free with extra content unlocked with Play Pass.

If you want to subscribe, you can pay $5 per month or $30 per year (£5 and £30, respectively, in the UK). You can share a subscription with up to five other family members. You can each download, install, and play different apps and games just as though you have individual memberships.

How to Subscribe to Google Play Subscription

It’s easy to subscribe on an Android device. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Play Store on your Android device.

  2. Tap your profile avatar at the top right.

  3. Tap on Play Pass.

  4. If you want to pay monthly at $5/month then tap Get Started, or you can save some cash and pay annually by tapping the yearly subscription link at $30/year.

  5. Select your payment method and tap Subscribe.

Once you subscribe, you will see a new tab in the Play Store app at the far left, titled Play Pass. Content is organized into different categories, and you can find the latest additions under New, or check out Top Charts to see what is popular. There is also a handy Children tab with recommendations for different ages.

You can manage your subscription in the Play Store by tapping your profile at the top right and choosing Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions.

Subscriptions on Google Play are for an indefinite term, and you’ll be charged at the beginning of each billing cycle according to your subscription terms (for example, weekly, annually, or another period), unless you unsubscribe.

How to cancel Google Play Subscription

    Find your Google Play subscriptions

The easiest way to cancel Android app subscriptions is by using your Android smartphone. But first, you need to actually find your subscriptions. This is especially helpful if you’re a bit subscription-happy and don’t remember which apps you’ve subscribed to.

    1. Start by launching the “Play Store” app. If you can’t find it on your device, swipe up on your home screen to open the app drawer and then scroll around until you locate the app.

    2. Tap on your profile icon.

    3. Select Payments & subscriptions.

    4. Go into Subscriptions.

    5. You’ll be able to see both your Active and Expired subscriptions here.

      Pausing a Google Play subscriptions

Another thing you need to know is that canceling is not the only available option. If you are short on cash, in some cases, you can pause payment for a month and continue your subscription on the next. Only some apps offer this, but it’s worth checking if they do.

      1. Launch the Google Play Store.

      2. Tap on your profile icon.

      3. Select Payments & subscriptions.

      4. Go into Subscriptions.

      5. Select the subscription you want to pause.

      6. Tap Manage.

      7. If the app offers this option, you will see Pause payments. Select this option.

      8. You will be able to select the time period you’d like to pause. All that is left to do after is tap Confirm.

      9. Your subscriptions will be paused at the end of your current billing period.

Cancel your Google Play Store subscription

However, if you are not satisfied with your subscription and still wish to cancel, here is how to go about it:

        1. Launch the Google Play Store.

        2. Tap on your profile icon.

        3. Select Payments & subscriptions.

        4. Go into Subscriptions.

        5. Find the subscription you want to cancel and select it.

        6. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.

        7. You may be asked to select a reason for the cancellation. Choose one from the options and tap Continue, followed by Cancel subscription.

In case you are worried about wasting part of your subscription, don’t be! You will still be able to use the app for the period you’ve already paid for or for the remainder of your free trial. The same applies to yearly subscriptions. If you signed up in June 2022, for example, and canceled shortly after, you will still be able to use the application until June 2023. It will not be automatically renewed after that.

How to Cancel a Google Play Subscription From the Web

If you no longer have access to an Android device or you’d instead handle your finances from your computer, you can cancel app subscriptions through the Google Play Store’s website as well.

Begin by visiting the Google Play Store from your browser of choice. From there, select your profile icon in the top right and click “Payments & Subscriptions.” Now switch over to the “Subscriptions” tab and click the “Manage” button on the right-hand side of your screen that is associated with the subscription that you’d like to cancel.

Select the “Cancel Subscription” option found at the bottom of the pop-up menu, choose a reason for canceling, and click “Continue.” Finally, click the “Cancel Subscription” button to confirm your decision.

Again, remember that the subscription will remain active through the end of your billing period. Also, remember that simply uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.

Can I get a refund for a Google Play subscription?

Subscription refunds are a bit more complicated than app purchase refunds. Generally, you should be able to get a refund within 48 hours of subscribing. However, you will only receive money for the month you canceled.

You might also need to contact the app developer directly, depending on the subscription service.

How to restart a Google Play subscription

Sometimes you may need to pause or cancel subscriptions because they’re not convenient or you’re too busy to take advantage of them. The good news is that restarting them is possible. Here is how to do that:
