This feature, according to Apple, is called &#8220;NameDrop.&#8221; But if you are reading this, chances are you have just recently installed iOS 17 and want to know how to set up the contact-sharing feature. Well, by the end of this article, you&#8217;ll be able to use your NameDrop swiftly without breaking a sweat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll also be able to understand the working principle of Apple&#8217;s NameDrop to the point where you can explain it to your friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s jump right in&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-set-up-contact-sharing-ios-17-overview\"><span id=\"how-to-set-up-contact-sharing-ios-17-overview\">How To Set Up Contact Sharing IOS 17: Overview<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No other feature demonstrated by Apple at WWDC 2023 received as much attention as NameDrop, which is an add-on feature within AirDrop in iOS 17 that takes it to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AirDrop is currently used to wirelessly share files such as photos, documents, and locations with other Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Apple has broadened the scope of AirDrop with the addition of NameDrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than typing in the number of a new contact to call or text them so they have your number, NameDrop allows you to simply hold your iPhone near their iPhone to exchange contact information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When two devices are brought together, a contact-sharing interface appears. Tapping on the popup displays a person&#8217;s contact information as well as their contact poster (a picture of yourself that you can customize and edit, which is also new in iOS 17). In response, the screen gives you the option to &#8220;Receive Only&#8221; or share your own contact information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can enter the phone number and email address that you want to share with the person on the other end, and it updates contact information if the person is already in your Contacts app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, this contact-sharing feature only works between two iPhones running iOS 17, as well as between an iOS 17 iPhone and an Apple Watch running watchOS 10, which means you can only set it up on these devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-you-should-know\"><span id=\"what-you-should-know\">What You Should Know<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>NameDrop is a new iOS 17 feature that lets you exchange contact information with someone with a simple gesture. When you bring your phone closer to another user&#8217;s, your &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/businessyield.com\/tech\/apple\/how-to-set-up-contact-poster-ios-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Contact Poster<\/a>&#8221; is shared with them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before you can use NameDrop on your iPhone, you must first have your &#8220;Contact Poster&#8221; set up and ready to go. To use NameDrop, bring your phone&#8217;s top close to the top of the other user&#8217;s phone to exchange contact information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When NameDrop is triggered, you have the option of sharing contact information or receiving only the other user&#8217;s contact information. Contact information is only shared if both users agree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-exactly-is-namedrop-in-ios-17\"><span id=\"what-exactly-is-namedrop-in-ios-17\">What Exactly Is Namedrop in iOS 17?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As previously stated, it is a new feature of AirDrop that allows users to seamlessly share contact information with other iOS 17 users. Users could already share contact information via AirDrop, but they had to go to the phonebook, search for the desired contact card, choose to share via AirDrop, wait for the desired Apple device to appear, and then share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users must bring their iPhones closer together in order to share desired contact information. That is all Apple has said about how the new feature works. However, we do know that in iOS 17, users can share their new contact posters along with their desired phone number, email address, and other details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple also confirmed that it can be used to share media files and enable SharePlay to watch movies, play games, and listen to music while bringing iPhones closer together. NameDrop is a faster version of Android&#8217;s Nearby Share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-set-up-contact-sharing-namedrop-on-ios-17\"><span id=\"how-to-set-up-contact-sharing-namedrop-on-ios-17\">How to Set Up Contact Sharing (NameDrop) on iOS 17  <\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re used to sharing contacts via the Share Sheet, but NameDrop makes giving someone your contact information a breeze. Of course, you can disable NameDrop if you don&#8217;t like the idea. This is how it is done in iOS 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Launch the Settings app.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to General -&gt; AirDrop.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on or off the switch next to Bringing Devices Together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s all. It should be noted that disabling this setting will also prevent the new AirDrop proximity sharing feature from working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-use-namedrop\"><span id=\"how-to-use-namedrop\">How to Use NameDrop<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we begin, make sure that both of you have an iPhone that is compatible with iOS 17. Following this basic requirement, proceed with the steps below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Go to Settings &gt; General &gt; AirDrop on your iPhone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now, press the Everyone for 10 Minutes button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On both devices, turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring two iPhones or an iPhone and an Apple Watch together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the screen, your &#8220;Contact Poster&#8221; will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap Share if you want to share your contact information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you only want to receive contact information, select Receive only.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-namedrop-completely-free\"><span id=\"is-namedrop-completely-free\">Is NameDrop Completely Free?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While Apple has a number of paid services, such as iCloud and Apple TV+, the majority of its features are free. This new feature is an addition to AirDrop, which is available to all users for free. This means they will not be charged a fee to use NameDrop. They will, however, need to configure their custom contact posters on iOS 17 in order to fully utilize it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-ios-17-out-yet\"><span id=\"is-ios-17-out-yet\">Is iOS 17 out yet?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before now, those who wanted to try the new feature right away signed up for an Apple Developer account and downloaded and installed the iOS 17 developer beta. However, there have been reports of several critical bugs in the iOS 17 beta update, such as WhatsApp media not downloading and Wi-Fi not working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the final stable release is out, with most bugs fixed. To download iOS 17, navigate to Settings&gt;General&gt;Software Update.
