There are a ton of reasons you might want to change your Zoom name. For starters, you may be using someone else’s computer and need to replace their name. You may be attending a business meeting and do not want your nickname displayed. And if you only included your last name’s initial, you may need to display your full name. So, how do you change the name of your Zoom account?

Well, the process is pretty simple and should take no more than a minute or two, regardless of platform. Let’s get started…

When creating an account with Zoom, users must specify two types of names: their user name and their display name. When creating an organizational account, the former refers to a person’s full name, which includes first and last names and could be the name of an IT administrator.

When users host or join a meeting from that account, the display name is displayed to other meeting participants. A display name can be the name of a business, a department, a nickname, or anything else you want. First-time Zoom users who do not have an account and join a meeting via a copy-pasted link can assign a temporary name to their meeting device.

All of these profile characteristics can be modified via the Zoom platform.

You can change your name on Zoom via the website, the desktop app, or the mobile app.

You can also change your pronouns, job title, location, and company on the same page.

On the desktop or mobile app, you can also change your name after a meeting has begun. Just keep in mind that if you use the website, you will be redirected to the desktop app (in which case you will simply continue from step two):

Meanwhile, meeting hosts can disable the option to update your name after the meeting has started. This means that there is a possibility that you won’t see the option to update your name.

To change your Zoom name on a PC or Mac, follow these steps:

If you are the meeting administrator, you should be able to rename another user by selecting More next to the user’s name on the Participants tab at the bottom of the meeting. When the option appears, enter the new username and click Save.

The meeting administrator has extensive authority over what you can and cannot do during a meeting. If you are unable to change your username, it is most likely due to a setting on the administrator’s end.

If you are the meeting’s host, you can allow users to change their names in the Zoom web browser client’s Settings. Scroll down to the Meeting section and look for the Allow participants to change their names option. To activate the ability, toggle the switch on.

If you’ve recently been promoted or simply want to let everyone know what you’re doing, you can change your title in Zoom.

You can’t do it. Participants cannot change their names on Zoom while they are in the waiting room at the moment. You can, however, either exit and change your name before rejoining the meeting, or join the meeting and then change your name as described above.

The host wields considerable power, one of which is the prohibition on changing names during a meeting. As a result, if you are unable to change your name during a Zoom meeting, it is most likely due to a setting on the administrator’s end.

Yes, but only if you’re hosting the meeting. Once you click on the ‘Participants’ tab at the bottom of the screen, this option should be available. Then, click ‘More’ next to the user’s name, and when the ‘Rename’ option appears, enter a new name.

You certainly can. Click ‘Settings,’ then ‘Profile,’ and then select your current profile picture. Two options will appear: click ‘Change Picture,’ select the new profile picture, resize it, and then click ‘Save.’

Log in to your Zoom account to get started. Then, from the navigation panel, choose ‘Account Management.’ To view your Zoom profile settings, select ‘Account Profile’ from the options that appear.

On the meeting screen of the mobile app, click ‘Settings’ and tap on the banner with your email address and profile picture. This displays your profile settings.
